Disaster
Management is one of the major activities in the Revenue
Department. The Revenue Department is an oldest Department of
the State Government, which play a very vital role in the
Administration comprising District Administration, Land
Records & Settlement, Relief Rehabilitation and Disaster
Management and Weights & Measures Department. This Department
is functioning for the greater interest of the poorest of the
poor with the help of three tier Panchayats in managing their
own affairs.
Revenue
Department is the Nodal Department for Disaster Management in
the State. Tripura is prone to various natural disasters,
particular to Earthquake. The State is situated in the most
vulnerable earthquake prone Zone-V of India. Having regard to
the fact of multi disaster prone, the Revenue Department has
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UNDP and
Government of India on 26th June 2003 for implementation of
GOI-UNDP Disaster Risk Management Programme in the State.
Since then, Revenue Department has taken a lead role on
Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Prevention activities at
various levels in the State. .
